Department of Pharmacology

Fostering impactful research collaborations for academic and industrial excellence.

Introduction Of Department of Pharmacology

The Department of Pharmacology at JKKMMRF’s Annai JKK Sampoorani Ammal College of Pharmacy, Komarapalayam, Namakkal, was established in 1989 with the Diploma in Pharmacy program. Undergraduate studies in pharmacology began in 1992, and the postgraduate program was introduced in 2008. Since then, the department has consistently advanced in academics, research, and professional development. The department aims to prepare students for impactful careers in the pharmaceutical industry, academic research, and healthcare sectors. It houses a CPCSEA-approved animal house (Registration No: 1158/PO/Re/S/07/CPCSEA), which supports hands-on learning and research using laboratory animals such as mice, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits. Pharmacology, being a core biomedical discipline, supports a wide range of studies. The department offers diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs. It is equipped with comprehensive facilities, including an animal quarantine area, to support the curriculum and research needs. Research areas include In-Vivo, In-Vitro, and In-Silico pharmacological methods, with ongoing projects in antiulcer, anthelmintic, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, drug delivery systems, toxicological studies, and drug interaction assessments.

• Institutional Ethical Committee Approval

• Equipment for CNS, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory studies

• Cardiac, respiratory, and in-vitro research capabilities

• Digital and non-invasive instruments

Instrumentation List

The Pharmacology laboratory at JKKMMRF’s Annai JKK Sampoorani Ammal College of Pharmacy is equipped with a comprehensive range of modern instruments to support both academic and research activities. The lab includes advanced tools for studying central nervous system activity, analgesic effects, anti-inflammatory responses, and other pharmacological models. Key instrumentation includes the Rotarod apparatus, Actophotometer, Histamine chamber, and Cook’s pole climbing apparatus, which are essential for behavioral and neurological studies. For biochemical and physiological analysis, the lab is furnished with a cooling centrifuge, semi auto analyzer, and gel electrophoresis system. In addition, facilities like the electro-convulsiometer, open field test unit, and Eddy’s hot plate enable precise experimental setups for evaluating drug efficacy and toxicity. The department also houses elevated plus maze units for both rats and mice, digital plethysmograph, student bio assay instruments, and metabolic cages, supporting both in-vivo and in-vitro pharmacological investigations. These tools collectively provide a strong platform for conducting high-quality, ethical research in pharmacology and toxicology.
